Vassar Clements, 1928-2005
Sunday August 21, 2005
Paul McCartney. Jerry Garcia. Bruce Hornsby. Linda Ronstadt. The Byrds. The list of artists with whom virtuoso fiddler Vassar Clements recorded and performed over the years includes a veritable Who’s Who of Classic Rock. Although most closely associated with Bluegrass, Clements was well known for not placing boundaries on his music, and was sought after by artists who respected his creativity and versatility – he played virtually anything with strings. Vassar Clements died on August 16 at his daughter’s suburban Nashville home, at the age of 77.
