Monday August 29, 2005
Lead singer Johnny Van Zant is going to undergo surgery, so scheduled Lynyrd Skynyrd dates through October 2 have been cancelled. According to a statement on the group's website, Van Zant is being treated at the Vanderbilt Voice Clinic in Nashville, and is under doctor's orders to stay off the stage for three months while he's recovering from surgery to remove a vocal cord polyp. The group has had to cancel appearances off and on for the past several months because of Van Zant's ongoing health problems.
