Rocketman Rocks Roman Ruins
Sunday September 4, 2005
Over the years, the Via dei Fori Imperiali outside Rome's ancient Colosseum has been a choice spot for Classic Rock artists. Hundreds of thousands greeted Simon and Garfunkel there last year, and Paul McCartney in 2003. On Saturday (September 3) night, an estimated 200,000 people -- some of whom had claimed squatter's rights on the best spots before daybreak -- clapped and danced among the ancient ruins as Elton John performed a free concert. It was Sir Elton's first performance in Italy in more than 30 years. He will be touring North America beginning Tuesday (September 6) and continuing through the end of November.Read an interview with Elton John
