Preview: The New Cars - Let the Good Times Roll

Thursday March 16, 2006
Some of The New Cars are, indeed new Cars: lead vocalist Todd Rundgren, bassist Kasim Sulton (Utopia) and drummer Prairie Prince (The Tubes). Some of the New Cars are actually old Cars -- original members of the group formerly known as The Cars: Elliot Easton on guitar and Greg Hawkes on keyboards.

The New Cars will be releasing a New CD soon. For starters, they have released a New Video, "Not Tonight" to whet our appetites.

The New Cars will be joined by Blondie for The Road Rage Tour, beginning May 12.

Tour Schedule / Tickets

The original Cars gave New Wave a jumpstart when their self-titled 1978 debut album went to #3 on the Billboard album chart. They followed up with another six albums that all went platinum or gold.

The Cars last toured in 1989. Original bassist Benjamin Orr has since died of cancer. Original lead singer Ric Ocasek and drummer David Robinson chose not to participate in the reunion.

Let the Good Times Roll is scheduled for release May 9.

Glad to hear the Cars are finally coming back. I saw the New Cars perform their new single on the Late Late Show a few weeks back. They were on fire. Can’t wait to hear the new album. Thanks for the story on the band.

Todd Rundgren and the Cars? Sounds intense. Amazing news. Ric Ocasek must be losing his mind.
