Doors Choose Digital Debut
If you aren’t yet convinced that there’s a revolution underway in the way music is distributed, consider the latest artists who are embracing it.
The Doors’ first album was released, on a vinyl LP, in 1967. Their next release – a dozen concerts recorded between 1967 and 1970 – will be released via download from the group’s Web site, as one of the many elements of a celebration of the 40th anniversary of that first release. The date for the downloads has not yet been set.
Other "events" to mark the occasion will be a 12-disc boxed set to be released in the fall, a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame exhibit, an interactive Las Vegas attraction, a documentary film, a TV special, and a couple of coffee table books.
