McCartneys' Lame Excuse

Thursday May 18, 2006
I really hadn't planned to say anything about Paul McCartney's marriage breaking up. The tabloids and celebrity gossipers are covering this "news" quite adequately (overly so, one might argue) and, more importantly, it has nothing to do with the classic rock music that is the subject of this site. The reason that Sir Paul and Lady Heather gave for the breakup is so ridiculous, however, that I either had to vent or risk blowing a blood vessel.

It has become popular to blame "the media" for everything from political bias to global warming. The McCartneys have taken this lame copout to new heights, however, when they pout that "media intrusion" caused their marriage to fail. That, in a word, is so much bull$&*!

It isn't as if these are shy innocents who have somehow been forced into the public eye against their will. They have frequently invited the media to "intrude" on their various charity campaigns. Both chose high profile careers. Now they whine that they can't "maintain a normal relationship with constant intrusion into our private lives." Give me a break. A marriage may fail for a variety of reasons. Placing the blame on "the media" is nothing more than a convenient way to avoid personal responsibility.

Okay, I'm done. I feel a lot better know. Thanks for letting me vent. If you have a problem with it, the media made me do it.

Could not agree with you more. It amazes me how celiberities will use the media, than blame them when their career or personal life takes a downturn. The media only reports, we the fan decide for ourselves. To blame the media is nothing more than copping out.

Maybe that young woman just doesn’t need Paul when he’s 64. How’s that for a better excuse?

I was just thinking the same thing the other day when I first heard about the breakup. What a lame a– excuse if I ever heard one. Why is it when celebrities marriages break up, they always make up lame excuses instead of coming out with the real reason. Can you say IMMATURITY. Also, as far as heather goes, can you say GOLD DIGGER. Bet you also if Paul gets married again, he won’t forget that prenup…expensive lesson learned –A Mate

I believe it was the lack of media coverage on Heather’s part that broke the marriage up. Paul got sick and tired of her whining about him being more famous than her. DOH!
