Preview: Tom Petty - Highway Companion CD
Tom Petty says he is on his last concert tour and has done his last interview. Should we assume, then, that Highway Companion, due to be released July 25, will be his last CD? Well, since Petty says he isn't giving any more interviews ever, the question will, for now, remain unanswered.
It isn't as if he doesn't have anything else to do. He is in his second year of hosting an XM Satellite radio show, and has a recurring role on the animated TV series, King of the Hill.
The first single from Petty's new album is "Saving Grace":

Paint things black or white, but the real world is more colourful. First, Tom Petty has mentioned that the 2006 tour might be the last nationwide tour, but will continue playing live. Second, the reference to the last interview is here explained by Petty himself (posted at tompetty.com):
-In response to the quote in the recent Rolling Stone article… “this is it for me … this is the last interview I’m doing for a long time.” I feel Neil Strauss might have misunderstood me by “this is it.” I meant it was the last of a long string of interviews I had been doing over the past month to promote Highway Companion and “for a long time” I meant for the length of the tour I was going on in a few days. It was just an aside. I should have explained myself in more detail – I certainly intend to speak with media in the future, especially concerning my new CD Highway Companion.
