Well I would have to go with: REM, Patti Smith, Stooges, Van Halen, and Grandmaster Flash. I most definitely think Patti Smith needs to get in this year.
Why wouldn’t the rock and roll hall of fame induct Rush? They’ve been together since 1974 and have a HUGE legion of fans; it’s completely ridiculous they’ve ignored them all these years. My 2 cents.
when the hell are the moody blues going to get in? i believe their time is waaaaaay overdue
Where is BOSTON? Who picks the nominees? BOSTON deserves this honor and I hope it happens before I die.
The R&RHOF is a joke. The nominations are probably done by the same people who do the Oscars and Emmys. They a get acouple right and the rest are ridiculous. Who the heck is Grnadmaster Flash? (rap is not even music). Yeah, Boston, Rush, Moody Blues, and even Yes should be in the Hall waaaay before some of these other clowns. You would think the term ‘classic’ would play some role in deciding who gets in. But it doesn’t.
Yes, who the hell does the nominating? C’mon! Chic? Grandmaster Who?, Joe Tex?
I thought this was the ROCK & ROLL HOF, not the Popular Crap HOF. Since when does Rap qualify for any type of music award? What a joke! Why aren’t the Moddy Blues, REO Speedwagon, Ten Years After, Three Dog Night, Chicago, Alice Cooper, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull in yet? I could go on and on with a whole freakin’ list of people and groups that should be in and they aren’t even nominated. While REM is probably deserving, let them pay their dues and wait their turn. Patti Smith? Excellent wordsmith, but R & R HOF material? Not yet. Let’s get some of the deserving ones in and then expand to the fringe if we must. Then we could probably even vote in Blood, Sweat and Tears who at least are Rock & Roll and not that RAP CRAP. Grandmaster Who?
don’t even get me going. i live in cleveland, and, everything is controlled by new york. they haven’t even got throught the sixties yet. deep purple, grand funk, and a host of others. alice cooper, elo, yes, genesis, elp. do they listen? hell no. it’s all pomp and circumstance. hell in 5 or 10 more years we’ll have britney, christine, justin, madonna. what the? and i thought they had a motown hall of fame. so why have some of them crossed over. maybe we should nominate pink floyd, the who, the stones, mitch ryder and the like into theirs? obviously they were very r&b influenced. but, i rant, sorry. it will never change. how about clay aikens in another twenty. why not? the music companies are creating their own music now. not the bands. and, one last thought, where the hell is j. geils? when of the best garage bands of my generation.
Maybe the DC5, thats it out of this sorry bunch. What about..Steppenwolf, Three Dog Night, The Guess Who, Grand Funk, Deep Purple, Yes, B.T.O have of the crap thats in, is the rock and half of the remaining half, suck.
the day the music “died”. that’s may last comment here. just remember one thing. “GOD MADE ROCK AND ROLL FOR YOU”. i guess it is whatever someone else thinks it is. keep it in your heart until the day you die. and continue rockin. we all know what it is and supposed to be
“Chic
Disco band popular in the late-70s when Luther Vandross was lead singer”
WHAT?! Luther Vandross did some studio backup vocals, but he was never a member of the band and he was definitely not the lead singer. That was originally Norma Jean Wright and later (on “Le Freak” and “Good Times”), Alfa Anderson. Listen to any Chic song and you’ll hear a female voice singing very obviously.
As for the rest of you clowns, just because you’ve never heard of an act doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be in there. It means you need to check out where today’s music came from.
Mookie, it’s clear that I should be more careful about what I write at the end of a long day [8>o Of course, you’re right about Vandross’ work with Chic. Thanks so much for catching it and pointing it out!
