Never mind the fact that Van Halen became Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees the first time they were nominated. They first became eligible for nomination in 2003, so the reaction from many VH fans to their selection as 2007 inductees has been, "It's about time!"
Comments about the Rock Hall's credibility aside, those of you who voted in our poll picked four of the five nominees who were selected by the real Rock Hall voters. Van Halen was the top vote getter in our poll, tied with Dave Clark Five. The Rock Hall opted for rappers Grandmaster Flash and the Furious Five over rockers DC Five.
Van Halen's last (and, arguably, worst) full album of new material was released in 1998. Their last tour was in 2004, in support of a hits compilation album that also included two new songs. The fact that the band's members can't seem to agree on when or even whether the next VH reunion might occur is one of our Ways Van Halen Puts the FUN in DysFUNctional.

Ah the Van Halen / Van Hagar / DLR soap opera / saga continues!
Sammy H has even been quoted as saying that the induction could be entertaining as it may end up in fist fights! Nice! Very professional outlook, eh? Hey, the guys should take the honour for what it’s worth & make the most of it! It bring all individuals associated with the band into the spotlight!
I mean look:
1. It’s giving David Lee Roth a step back into the limelight, IF the reunion of he & EVH does materialize with a full blown tour, after his disasterous embarrassments with the Sammy & Dave Tour!
2. It potentially could launch Wolfgang’s career if the tour becomes a success – Although the lad replacing Mike Anthony is laughable & perhaps an insult by EVH?! Yes, I do know young Wolfgang is extremely talented, but it could launch his career from the get go or if Eddie can’t stay sober for the tour, it could down Wolfgang before he knows it ….
3. Everyone is aware of the stories behind the last tour with Sammy singing & Eddies falling over his guitar lead & other things through being …., out of it, so it’s a chance for him to put the record straight or blow his reputation completely if he can’t stay sober.
4. For Sammy to appear @ the induction, well, his touring year in, year out without the need of VH speaks for itself. Sammy already sells out shows everywhere he goes & last years gigs with Mike Anthony, as The Other Half, was nothing but a roaring success! Not only musically but for Sammy’s Tequilla sales & Mike’s Hot Sauce sales!
So, who can’t lose from this induction?
The guy that gave VH their most successful years & who wasn’t even there at the start!
Bit like the AC/DC story really isn’t it, although sadly Bon’s no longer around to show Brian Johnson how it should be done.
Don’t get me wrong, I thought VH were great with both DLR & SH, hence why a tour with both of them would’ve been a killer show, but perhaps sadly may have gone that way backstage too!
Raise your glasses to Van Halen, they were a legend!
Alun :>)
PS
By the way, I’ve just learned that apparently both Sammy & Mike A are currently working on another side project with Red Hot Chili’s drummer, Chad Smith, called Chickenfoot.
I hope the music is better than the name! I’m sure it will be!
Chad’s an awesome player, even if the Chili’s don’t grab me, his recent work with Glenn Hughes (Ex-Deep Purple, Trapeze) is great!
Good stuff, huh?!
Al
Good points, Alun. I think it’s interesting that a joint statement released yesterday expressing thanks to fans and the Rock Hall voters was signed only by the Van Halens and Roth. Hagar and Anthony were NOT included in the statement. I guess if VH perform at the induction ceremony and Sammy and Mike are there, they’ll just be in the audience? Chucking rotten vegetables toward the stage, perhaps? {;>)
Ha ha! I hear you Dave! Too funny!
