No, I'm not going to do this every day, but in light of history, it is significant that almost 24 hours after the announcement of a Van Halen tour, nobody has pulled the plug yet.
In its latest incarnation, Van Halen brothers Ed and Alex, Ed's son, Wolfgang and "Diamond Dave" Roth will commence a 25-date tour on September 27 in Charlotte, NC.
With the exception of teenager Wolfie, the band's members are in their 50s. They were closer to 30 when they last toured together. "I'm shocked any of us are still vertical," said Roth. "Usually, when a band comes back like us, it's rockers with walkers."
Perhaps addressing the fact that original bassist Michael Anthony has been replaced by the youngest Van Halen, Roth said, "This is not a reunion. This is a whole new band."
New, yes. Whole? Well, that remains to be seen.
