It looks like halftime at Super Bowl XLII will also be the kickoff of a spring/summer tour for Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
After all but announcing retirement from touring a couple of years ago, Petty has agreed to the band's request to go on the road again. Tickets for the three-month, 37-city US tour will go on sale the day after the Super Bowl. Here's the full tour schedule.
Serious fans will recall that before they were Heartbreakers, the band began life in Gainesville FL as Mudcrutch. The original members of Mudcrutch (Petty, Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Tom Leadon and Randall Marsh) have recorded an album that is expected to be released shortly.
And in Other Tour News ...
Def Leppard are to hit the road March 27 in support of their new album, Songs From The Sparkle Lounge, which is due to be released March 18.
Styx and REO Speedwagon will again be tour mates for the US shows, with Whitesnake appearing at the band's UK gigs. Here's the Def Leppard (and company) tour schedule.
In what may be the ultimate in cross-genre pollination, the first single from Sparkle Lounge, "Nine Lives" features the very country singer, Tim McGraw.
Promises Kept
The promised Robert Plant - Alison Krauss US tour begins April 20 in Louisville KY. They will be joined on stage by their Raising Sand producer, T Bone Burnett. Here's the tour schedule so far, with more US dates to be added in June and July.
Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band resume touring February 28 in Hartford CT. A swing through Europe has been added to the tour, which will wrap up (as Springsteen tours always do) in his home territory, New Jersey (Giants Stadium) at the end of July. Here's The Boss's itinerary.
You'd best be getting your tour face on!
