• 1958 - Eddie Cochran's "Summertime Blues" debuts in the UK, four months after its US release; it will become one of rock's most covered songs
• 1967 - Elton John (known at the time by his real name, Reginald Dwight) and Bernie Taupin sign their first songwriting deal, with DJM Publishing
• 1974 - Hard rocker Ted Nugent (ex-Amboy Dukes) becomes national squirrel shooting champion
