Macca Electronica (and other oddments of newsy stuff)
When you've done it all, go experimental! The third album by The Fireman (a collaboration between Paul McCartney and producer Youth) is set for release next week (11/25.) In the meantime, you can sample this latest adventure in experimental electronica courtesy of National Public Radio. McCartney is still hoping that an unreleased experimental track recorded by The Beatles in 1967 will see the light of day. He tried to get the track on the band's 1995 Anthology series, but couldn't get the necessary approval of the surviving Beatles and the estates of Lennon and Harrison.
Garcia on the Silver Screen
The life of Jerry Garcia will soon be immortalized on a large screen near you. A feature film on the late Grateful Dead front man will focus on Garcia's pre-Dead exploits on the San Francisco music scene.
Firm Date for The Boss
January 27 is the official release date for Bruce Springsteen's new Working On A Dream album. In case you're keeping score, this will be his 24th album, and will include material that was written while he was still recording his last one, 2007's Magic. Timing is everything. It seems no coincidence that Springsteen will perform at halftime of the Super Bowl a few days after the new album is released.
