Gone: Sweet from Boston, Walmart from digital music

By August 12, 2011

Follow me on:

Michael Sweet, who became a vocalist for Boston after the death of Brad Delp in 2007, is leaving Boston to devote full time to his day job as lead vocalist for Christian hard rock band Stryper. It isn't like Sweet has had a whole lot to do for Boston. Except for a 12-week tour in the summer of 2008, there have been no signs of life beyond a remastered Greatest Hits reissue in 2009, and infrequent reminders of the release of a new years-in-the-making studio album sometime in the dim distant future, maybe.

Walmart is getting out of the digital music business. The retailer will leave the MP3 business to the 800 pound gorillas like iTunes and Amazon, and will turn their attention instead to their recently acquired Vudu video streaming service. August 29 will be the last day of Walmart's digital music sales.
