From their breakthrough debut album through some forgettable releases after Jim Morrison's death, the story of the musical journey of The Doors, as reflected in their album catalog, is a compelling one.
Morrison's influence as vocalist and songwriter (he would probably prefer to be called a poet) is well documented, but there are other aspects of The Doors' musical history to be found in their album catalog: Robbie Krieger's role as songwriter increasing as Morrison's was decreasing due to his abuse of alcohol and drugs; the band departing the studio and producer associated with their first five albums to produce an album on which Morrison's vocals were recorded in the bathroom of their rehearsal studio.
Above all, The Doors were unique, in musical styles and lyrical themes, and when you heard them, there was never any doubt as to who you were listening to.
