For his new solo album (his seventh, if you're keeping track) Justin Hayward is in a pensive mood, reflecting on loves lost, but still being able to see the promise of the future.
Even as dominant as his contribution has been to The Moody Blues as singer-songwriter-guitarist,
Spirit of the Western Sky does not sound like a Moody Blues album, something for which Hayward has been criticized more than once during his simultaneous solo/Moodies career.
If nothing else, you sense that this is a very personal album for its creator. Accordingly, there's really only one genre you can fit it into: Justin Hayward music.
