Lynyrd Skynyrd, one of the pioneer Southern Rock bands, was nominated seven times before finally being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The band's history is marred by the tragedy of a fatal 1977 plane crash and a subsequent ten year hiatus. Through it all, the group has maintained one of the most loyal fan followings of any Classic Rock group.
