Coming in May 2013

New from classic rock artists

By

Start a conversation about classic rock, and I'm willing to bet that before it has gone on very long, every one of these names will be mentioned: Rod Stewart, Deep Purple, Styx, John Fogerty, The Rolling Stones, The Moody Blues, Judas Priest. Where did those particular names come from? Thanks for asking. The answer is: they all have new releases coming in May 2013.

Rod Stewart - 'Time'

Rod Stewart - Time
Capitol Records

Wait a minute, don't leave yet! This is NOT another album of pop covers. Time is Rod Stewart's first album of new, original music since 2001. And it's rock. You know, the kind he did for the first 30 or so years of his career, with Faces, Jeff Beck Group, and solo. And, just like in the early years, Stewart co-wrote all but one the songs on the album.

It will be "just a good, old-fashioned Rod Stewart album," Stewart told Billboard in an October 2012 interview. "The themes are a little more adult now. There's no 'Hot Legs' or 'Do Ya Think I'm Sexy.' But they're, I think, songs people can relate to."

Deep Purple - 'Now What?!'

Deep Purple - Now What?!
Eagle Rock Entertainment

Deep Purple got a lot of mileage out of teasing fans about their upcoming new album, not letting on what the title would be for months after announcing that it was on the way. They teased with a big question mark, which found its way into the title when it was finally revealed. Now What?! is all new material, and if you need to know for your next trivia contest, it is the 19th original DP studio release, the last one of which was Rapture of the Deep in 2005.

John Fogerty - 'Wrote a Song for Everyone'

John Fogerty - Wrote a Song for Everyone
Vanguard Records

Not only does it seem that John Fogerty has written "a song for everyone" during his career, he recruited darn near everyone to join him in the studio to perform a dozen of his standards, and two new songs.

Styx - 'Grand Illusion & Pieces of Eight Live'

Styx - Grand Illusion & Pieces of Eight Live
Eagle Rock Entertainment

With concert audiences showing considerable interest in live performances of entire albums, Styx are in a good position. They have a deep catalog of titles to choose from, including their back to back game changers in 1975 and 1976, The Grand Illusion and Pieces of Eight.

When they took the stage at Orpheum Theater in Memphis in November 2010, it was to perform both albums, in their entirety, for the first time ever in a live performance. The Styx lineup for this performances featured three of the band members who originally recorded those albums, James "JY" Young, Tommy Shaw and Chuck Panozzo.

Release date May 7, 2013, available on CD and MP3
