Top classic rock releases January 2013

Hail vinyl

The year begins with a nice selection of vinyl reissues, new studio releases from Steve Lukather and Eric Burdon, and remastered reissues of live performances by Deep Purple, Johnny Winter and Rick Derringer. Happy '13!

Steve Lukather - 'Transition'

Steve Lukather - Transition
Mascot Records

After Toto broke up in 2008, lead vocalist-guitarist Steve Lukather went full steam on a solo career, recording two albums and touring extensively. Even with Toto reuniting in 2010 (and celebrating their 35th anniversary in 2013) Lukather is still finding time for his solo work. He says his latest album, Transition "is a turning point for the album and a turning point for me ... all the people I've lost in my life, the great and the difficult experiences I've had, and how ultimately it was time to get it together and embrace things for what they are, because we've only got one life to live and we've got to make the most of it."

Release date: January 22, 2013
Available on CD, MP3

Eric Burdon - 'Til Your River Runs Dry'

Eric Burdon - Til Your River Runs Dry
ABKCO Records

It has been almost 50 years since the British Invasion swept Eric Burdon and The Animals into the American consciousness with songs like "The House of the Rising Sun," "We Gotta Get Out of This Place" and "See See Rider." Since 1977, Burdon has released seven solo studio albums. His eighth, Til Your River Runs Dry includes five songs written by Burdon, in a process that took a long time, he says, "because of the subject matter of the songs I wanted to put out there. I started feeling that I needed to use this album as a catharsis, to express my own truth."

Release date: January 29, 2013
Available on CD, vinyl LP
