Just a few months ago, Stevie Nicks was talking optimistically about a new Fleetwood Mac album or tour sometime in 2012.
But now, Lindsey Buckingham tells Classic Rock magazine that while he'd be surprised if there isn't a new album sometime, "We've nothing like that going on at all. Stevie has been busy touring and I'm just about to release my new solo album and have plans to tour on the back of that. So, right now nothing's booked for the band."
Buckingham's Seeds We Sow (listen to samples) is out September 6, with a tour beginning September 9 and continuing into November.
Nicks' tour in support of her May 2011 release, In Your Dreams (which featured a duet with Buckingham and a video with Mick Fleetwood) is currently scheduled to continue into December.
Fleetwood and John McVie recently recorded a song for an upcoming ZZ Top tribute album, but neither appear to have any immediate tour or recording plans.
Fleetwood Mac's last studio album was Say You Will in 2003. Their last tour was in 2009. The band's 1977 classic, Rumours saw a resurgence recently when it was featured in an episode of Glee.
While Nicks and Buckingham are saying essentially the same thing about the next project, a timetable is, at the moment, somewhat fluid, if not downright elusive.
