The month of November, 2007 will long be remembered by Led Zeppelin fans. Three dates in particular stand out:
November 13
Some 27 years after Led Zeppelin slipped its moorings, the legendary band's catalog finally becomes available for digital downloading. The band's entire catalog will be available through all of your favorite online services.
On the same day, Mothership, a "best of" compilation (24 tracks on two CDs) will be released. The tracks, representing all eight of the band's studio albums, were hand-picked by surviving members Jimmy Page, Robert Plant and John Paul Jones.
November 20
Can you feel the tension building? Next, it's a remixed, remastered version of the soundtrack for the 1976 concert film, The Song Remains The Same (better known to hardcore fans as TSRTS) along with the film itself on DVD, also updated digitally and including some previously unreleased performance footage.
November 26
The bow on the package is, of course, one of the band's rare public performances -- this one a full blown concert -- part of a tribute to their late mentor, Atlantic Records founder Ahmet Ertegun.
Jones, Page and Plant will be joined by Jason Bonham on drums. It was the death of Bonham's father, John, that spelled the end of Led Zeppelin in 1980.
Although the band continues to flatly rule out a tour, the fact that they will be performing more than just a short set, along with the accompanying digital, DVD and CD releases, is enough to keep a flicker of hope alive in the hearts of dedicated fans.
