The title of Pink Floyd's debut album came from the title of a chapter of the book Wind In The Willows. The piper was Pan, Greek god of music.

All of the songs on The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn were written or co-written by Syd Barrett, with the exception of Roger Waters' "Take Up Thy Stethoscope And Walk."
