A July 2006 article in Rolling Stone made it seem as though Tom Petty was on the verge of snapping his guitar case shut for good. But then his 30th anniversary tour quickly sold out, his Highway Companion album received two GRAMMY nominations, and director Peter Bogdanovich began work on a documentary about Petty and The Heartbreakers that was released in 2007.
Petty then told the Los Angeles Times, "You never know how things are going to turn out, and I didn't see this year coming. But maybe next year will be even better."
A three-month, 37-city US tour in the spring and summer of 2008 marks Petty's return to the open road.
