  • Second album, Tapestry was the #1 album for 15 weeks, and was on the charts for more than six years

    Carole King Career History:

    She played piano in her own band in high school. In the early 60s, she teamed with college pal (and future husband) Gerry Goffin to write dozens of hit songs, while trying unsuccessfully to launch a singing career. With her second solo album, Tapestry, in 1971 she established herself as a performer. After a string of albums in the 70s, she went into semi-retirement, with a six-year gap between albums in the 80s. She resumed actively recording in the 90s.
