Definition: When an artist or group records a song that was made popular by another group, the newer recording is called the cover version. Sometimes, artists cover songs as a tribute to the artists who originally recorded them.
Examples:
- John Lennon's album Rock 'n' Roll consists of covers of '50s and '60s rock standards.
- Eric Clapton's Me and Mr. Johnson is a tribute to blues legend Robert Johnson
- Rush's 2004 album Feedback consists of covers of late '60s songs originally recorded by other groups
