Definition: Lyrics usually have a Southern theme, leading some to refer to the genre, not always altogether kindly, as "redneck rock." Since the 70s, the genre has increasingly incorporated a hard rock edge with fast guitar leads. In recent years, the genre has become less distinctive, and associated with the more commercially viable arena rock.
Examples:
Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Black Oak Arkansas, .38 Special, ZZ Top
