The Who were pioneers of the rock opera, and their stage shows defined the concept of "power trio." The best of both are combined in the three-DVD set, The Who: Tommy and Quadraphenia Live With Special Guests, due for release November 8 from Rhino Records.

The special guests, who joined The Who for a 1989 performance of Tommy at the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles, included Elton John, Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Patti LaBelle, and Steve Winwood. The live version of Quadraphenia is from the group's 1996-97 U.S. tour.

The third disc is a compilation of live performances of Who hits like "I Can See For Miles," "Baba O’Riley," "Won’t Get Fooled Again" and "Who Are You".

Bonus material includes:

  • Interviews with Daltrey and Townshend, and their comments on each track
  • Documentary, "The Story of Quadrophenia" including a newly discovered film of the band performing at a London Pub in 1964
  • Photo gallery
  • New interview with Billy Idol
