He is considered one of the most influential Irish blues rock artists ever and one of the top ten guitarists. He started performing in the mid-60s, releasing the first of 16 albums in 1971. He was born in 1948 and died after receiving a liver transplant in 1995.

Irish Roots:
Gallagher was born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, raised in County Cork.

In 1972, he was Melody Maker magazine's Top Musician of the Year, beating out Eric Clapton. Among the artists who consider him a major influence on their music are Brian May of Queen, Slash of Guns N' Roses and U2's The Edge.
