Ireland's best known heavy metal band was formed in Dublin in 1969 and lasted through the mid-80s. Originally known as Tin Lizzie, the band recorded 12 studio albums between 1971 and 1983. Their best known singles are "The Boys Are Back In Town," "Whiskey In the Jar" and "Cowboy Song."

Irish Roots:
All but one of the band's original members (Phil Lynott) was born in Ireland.

The band went through a succession of guitarists, but Lynott and Downey were with the group from the beginning.

Gary Moore – guitar (later played with Greg Lake and Skid Row)

Snowy White – guitar (toured with Pink Floyd in 1977)
John Sykes – guitar (later joined Whitesnake)
Darren Wharton – keyboards
