Free, .38 Special, Scorpions and "the best British rock concert of all time" are on the new release list for the last two weeks of March 2010.
1. 'Live at Knebworth 1990'
Release date: March 23, 2010 - Eagle Rock Entertainment
If there was such a thing as Fantasy Rock Concert, it's likely that most or all of these names would be on your list for a dream classic rock concert: Genesis, Pink Floyd, Dire Straits, Eric Clapton, Robert Plant, Jimmy Page, Paul McCartney, Elton John. In fact, in June 1990 those artists were on the bill for a benefit concert at Knebworth House in Hertsfordshire, England. Live At Knebworth is the 20th anniversary reissue of the two-CD set recorded during that uber-concert. It may not be, as the cover art boasts, "the best British rock concert of all time" but it probably comes close.
2. 'Free Forever'
Release date: March 23, 2010 - Eagle Rock Entertainment
Free became famous for their live performances before their albums began to become popular. This two-DVD set includes 1970 live gigs at the Beat Club in Germany and on Granada TV, and audio of Free's set at the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival. The package also includes original videos of "All Right Now," "The Stealer," "My Brother Jake," "Love You So" and "Wishing Well", plus various interviews and appearances. The classic Free lineup included vocalist Paul Rodgers, guitarist Paul Kossoff, drummer Simon Kirke and bassist Andy Fraser.
3. Scorpions - 'Sting In The Tail'
Release date: March 23, 2010 - Universal Music Group
Germany's best known hard rockers, Scorpions, are closing the book on a 45-year career with the release of their 18th studio album, Sting In The Tail, and a long farewell tour that will begin in May. "We finish our career with an album we consider to be one of the best we have ever recorded and with a tour that will start in our home country Germany and take us to five different continents over the next few years," said the band's album release announcement. Best known in the U.S. for "Rock You Like A Hurricane," "Wind Of Change" and "Send Me An Angel," Scorpions have racked up worldwide album sales of more than 75-million since the release of Lonesome Crow in 1972.
4. .38 Special - 'Authorized Bootleg: Nassau Coliseum Uniondale NY 1/29/85'
Release date: March 30, 2010 - A&M Records
.38 Special are no strangers to bootlegs. Eight were release between 1977 and 2000. The latest, Authorized Bootleg: Nassau Coliseum Uniondale NY 1/29/85 boasts audio quality a good deal better than your typical bootleg, and a crowd that is clearly up for some good arena rock. The set is heavy on the band's signature tunes like "Caught Up In You," "If I'd Been The One," "Hold On Loosely," "Wild Eyed Southern Boys" and "Back Where You Belong." The release, their first since 2004's Drivetrain, comes in the band's 35th year of non-stop rock.
5. Joan Armatrading - 'This Charming Life'
Release date: March 30, 2010 - 429 Records
This Charming Life is the 20th album Joan Armatrading has released since she first started recording and touring in 1972. As is her trademark, she moves smoothly from gritty rock ("Heading Back To New York City," "Best Dress On") to power ballad ("Promises") to soft rock ("This Charming Life") with smart lyrics and solid backing musicians.
