There are several similarities between the annual music festival at Glastonbury, England and the original Woodstock festival in 1969. Both are (or were) multi-day outdoor events attracting large audiences featuring big name rock artists. And then there's the rain.
The first Glastonbury Festival (full name: Glastonbury Festival of Contemporary Performing Arts, commonly referred to as Glasto) was in 1970, the year after Woodstock. It is the world's largest outdoor music and performing arts festival.
The 2009 Glastonbury festival (June 24-28) included performances by Neil Young and by Crosby, Stills & Nash, all of whom performed at the original Woodstock festival. Other classic rock artists on the bill included Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band and Status Quo. Other featured acts: a reunited Spinal Tap, Lady Gaga, Tom Jones, and Blur.
