Rock Road Trips
This spring/summer season of tours and new releases is shaping up to be a pretty hot one for me and all my classic rock loving pals.
How's this for a touring trio? Journey, Heart, Cheap Trick. Between July and September, this high octane grouping will be playing outside a lot. Some 42 amphitheater dates are booked in all parts of the US. The tour comes (not coincidentally, you can be sure) as Journey releases (June 3) a two-CD, one-DVD package of new songs, new versions of old songs, and a live concert video. Revelation will be an only-at-Wal-Mart release.
Styx and Def Leppard will be joined by REO Speedwagon for another triple. Side notes: Def Leppard's Songs From The Sparkle Lounge is scheduled for release April 29, and Styx will make a side trip to appear with Boston on July 1 at the Universal City Walk in California.
The Allman Brothers Band's annual concert series at New York City's Beacon Theatre (May 5-24) is on hold. Gregg Allman has been undergoing treatment for Hepatitis C, and although the treatments were successful, Allman is still recovering from them. The band and the Beacon promise that the canceled shows will be rescheduled.
And that's the news from the road. Many thanks to regular contributors Alun Williams and Jim Smith for this week's tour tips.

well thank you for the insite of all the oldies i love reading your page thanks again
You’re very kind, Michelle. Thanks for your comment.
Have you heard of the Common Ground Festival in Michigan? Probably not, it’s pretty small, but I am crossing my fingers that Journey comes here! 8 days, all outdoors along the river in a downtown urban area. It’s the best.
Allena, I wasn’t aware of it until you mentioned it. From the looks of this year’s (and 2007’s) lineup, it should (and will be) included in the Classic Rock fetical directory. Thanks for the heads-up!
Hi Allena,
I live in Sterling Hts, MI & have heard about the location, but have yet to get to a gig over in Lansing. Someday soon I’m sure!
Look over at the organisers site here below for details of this years events, no Journey this year, as they’ll be at DTE / Pine Knob in September with Heart & Cheap Trick. The bill at Common Ground though will be including Red Rocker - Sammy Hagar & REO Speedwagon.
Wonder who will get the Saturday spot on the 12th July?

Should be good!
